Philosophy, Art, and the Dalai Lama

Students studying abroad in India this summer were granted an audience with the Dalai Lama.

On June 2, two classes of study abroad students were granted an audience with the Dalai Lama in India.

“It’s a great honor that many study abroad groups who travel to India are not given,” says Suzanne Neary, director of the Office of International Programs and Services.

“We are fortunate to partner with The Norbulingka Institute and grateful that Professor Suzanne Ironbiter, who has led the Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy and Art class in India several times, has a personal relationship with a member of the Dalai Lama’s staff. This is Professor Ironbiter’s third audience with His Holiness.”

The students are in India from May 27 through July 2 enrolled in one of the following two courses.

The Office of International Programs and Services offers a broad range of options for studying abroad.

In addition, Purchase students have the option to partake in SUNY’s study abroad programs in more than 60 countries and all 7 continents.
