By the time that they graduate, history majors are expected to demonstrate:

  1. a knowledge of the basic narrative of their field of concentration and have been introduced to a secondary field
  2. an understanding of diverse historical scholarship
  3. an ability to evaluate historical sources
  4. a conceptual grasp of and an ability to write about temporal change and the relationships between social changes and political and cultural development
  5. an ability to conceptualize and write about a complex topic independently (in preparation for the senior project)
