Lee Conell is the author of the novel The Party Upstairs (Penguin Press), awarded the Wallant Award, and the story collection Subcortical (Johns Hopkins University Press), awarded The Story Prize’s Spotlight Award. 

More About Me

She has received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Fiction Fellowship, as well as an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Japan-US Creative Artist Fellowship. Her stories and essays appear in Kenyon Review, ZYZZYVA, Guernica, Paris Review daily, Oxford American, Glimmer Train, American Short Fiction, and elsewhere; her work has received the Nelson Algren Award from the Chicago Tribune, and has been shortlisted in Best American Short Stories and the Pushcart Prize anthology. She has received residencies and support from Yaddo, Millay Arts, Willapa Bay AiR, the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Leadership, and the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.
