Eric Hahn ’14

Eric Hahn ’14 is currently Assistant Professor of Creative Media and Entertainment at Butler College.


Hahn was co-producer, finishing editor, and colorist for the short documentary Deciding Vote that world premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2023.


Hahn is a film and media practitioner and instructor, having taught film and digital media history/theory/practice courses at Chapman University, Irvine Valley College, the University of California, Irvine, and here at Purchase before joining Butler College in 2024.

In addition to teaching, Hahn works in film production and post-production, primarily as a colorist and editor. He has worked on multiple award-winning films, including “Circle of Poison” (Dir. Mascagni & Post, 2015), “Night School” (Dir. Andrew Cohn, 2016), “The World Before Your Feet” (Dir. Jeremy Workman, 2018), and the 2021 SXSW Documentary Feature winner “Lilly Topples the World” (Dir. Jeremy Workman).

Hahn has also completed trailers, featurettes, and shorts for A24, Entertainment One, ESPN, the National Film Board of Canada, and Sundance TV (among others).

His personal projects have screened at multiple film festivals, including The Dam Short Film Festival and the Seattle True Independent Film Festival.

Eric holds an MA in cinema studies from New York University and a PhD in visual studies from the University of California, Irvine. His current research analyzes the shifting state of digital cinema through the lenses of media archaeology, media ecology, and media policy and law.

His research has appeared in The Journal of Popular Culture, Flow, The Routledge Handbook of Remix Studies, and In Media Res.
