Peter F. Bell

Associate Professor Emeritus of Economics

Peter F. Bell is an internationally recognized expert on Thailand and a specialist on the economies of developing nations. He is a political economist, which he has defined as one who “looks at the economy as part of a larger set of social institutions that involve questions of power and class,” in the tradition of economists like Adam Smith and John Kenneth Galbraith.

In addition to his teaching and research while at Purchase College, he directed the New York State Council on Economic Education, one of 47 state councils in the National Council on Economic Education, for many years. This work was featured in an article on Oct. 3, 1993, in the New York Times.

He is currently an educational consultant on curriculum development and economic and financial education in K–12.
