Marcia Cavell
Associate Professor Emerita of Philosophy
Marcia Cavell, a philosopher and psychoanalyst, is the author of The Psychoanalytic Mind, from Freud to Philosophy (Harvard University Press) and Becoming A Subject, Reflections in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis (The Clarendon Press).
After living in Berkeley, California, since 1984, where she was a practicing psychoanalyst and a visiting professor of philosophy at the University of California, she returned to New York in the mid-2000s. Since her return, she has taught in the graduate division of the New School and at Bard College. Cavell is a fellow of the New York Institute for the Humanities and currently resides in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
