Aviva Taubenfeld

Aviva Taubenfeld is an associate professor of literature and writing at Purchase College. Author of Rough Writing: Ethnic Authorship in Theodore Roosevelt’s America (2008), she publishes and presents on early 20th-century U.S. literature and on pedagogy. She is currently at work on a book on the growing centrality of high school in Progressive-era literature as a way to understand the debates over high school education today.

Taubenfeld has been teaching at Purchase since 2003, offering courses on U.S. literature, ethnicity, childhood, writing, and pedagogy. In 2013, she was honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
