Watching cartoons as a child helped me express myself and cope with challenges in my life. Creating my own became my outlet for depicting and coping with gender and sexuality, sexual assault, and navigating relationships as an “atypical partner”, or one that is not typically shown in mainstream media. This manifested through my own characters Brandon and Luther when I was a sophomore in high school. This project shines light on how sexual assault impacts a person’s life including their relationships with others, and engagement with society among other topics. It will serve to educate others on how to be supportive friends, family, and partners of someone who has had these experiences and communicate effectively about it.
