Scott Mason ’05, ’07
A native of Danbury, CT, Scott graduated from the Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music in 2005 and a Master of Music in 2007. While at Purchase, he served as a recording engineer, co-hosted a WPSR radio show, and was a mentor with the Great Potentials High School Summer Program. He was also active with student clubs as a member of The Organization of African People in the Americas (OAPIA), a PSGA Senator, and a founding member of the Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SoCA). After Purchase, he worked as a freelance musician, a mobile disc jockey, and a sound engineer in the New York Tri-State area.
For over 20 years as a member of the Danbury Music Center, Scott performs with their Symphony Orchestra, Community Orchestra, Baroque Orchestra in collaboration with their Concert Chorus, and assists with their Youth Summer Bands Enrichment Program. He is also a member of WestConn Toastmasters Club 599 where he served as Vice President of Education and volunteers with the Friends of Danbury Library Organization.
In 2019, Scott returned to school at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT. There, he completed a Sixth-Year Certificate in Elementary Education which included a Connecticut teacher certification. As part of the requirements, he completed both an internship and a teaching residency with elementary schools in Danbury. Outside of work, his hobbies include lawn care, mystery fiction, softball, and yoga. He owns a Beagle mix named Jasmine.
A major lesson Scott learned while at Purchase is guiding the next generation of young people is a form of service for the greater society, in addition to a moral obligation. This led him to become a member of the Purchase College Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2018, where he is also serving on the Young and Future Alumni Committee. He is looking forward to continuing to grow the alumni network and sharing his experiences with future alumni to help them on their post-Purchase journey.
