Jeffrey Putman ’96

Jeffrey has served as a member of the Purchase College Alumni Association Board of Directors since 1997, serving as the Founding Corporate Secretary and two terms as President of the Alumni Association. He is a member of the Board’s Executive Committee; Co-Chair of the Governance and Bylaws Committee; and the Alumni Representative to the Purchase College Strategic Enrollment Planning Workgroup.

He currently serves as Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs at The State University of New York - Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY. In his role, he provides overall coordination of services for students and serves as the chief student affairs officer and deputy chief academic officer. In addition, he also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. He previously served as Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at SUNY Downstate. Prior to coming to Downstate, Jeffrey served from 1996–2006 in multiple student affairs roles at Purchase College, SUNY, including as Interim Dean of Students and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs & Ombudsperson.

In addition to his role at Downstate, Jeffrey serves in leadership roles as Regional Director and Regional Historian for Region II and as Senior Student Affairs Officer Liaison for the Information Technology Knowledge Community of NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education; as Chair of the Alumni Experience Committee and Past-President of the Teachers College - Columbia University Alumni Council and Alumni Association; as Past President of the SUNY Council of Senior Student Affairs Officers; and as an executive committee member and doctoral sector representative of the SUNY Chief Academic Officers Association.

Jeffrey earned his Doctor of Education in Higher & Postsecondary Education, as well as a Master of Education and Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts from Purchase College, SUNY
