Samara Joy ’21 Wins 6th Grammy Award

The Los Angeles Master Chorale, led by President/CEO Scott Altman ’90, was also a winner.


Best Jazz Vocal Album

Samara Joy ’21 received her sixth Grammy award last night in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album for Portrait.

The 68th Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles marked the fourth year in a row Joy has been nominated and won for a total of seven nominations. This year, she also received a nomination for “Peace Of Mind / Dreams Come True” as Best Jazz Performance.

Portrait also earned an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album in 2025. Joy’s first Grammy award was for Best New Artist in 2023.


Best Choral Performance Scott Altman '90 (Music)

Scott Altman ’90 (Music) is the President/CEO of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Ortiz: Yanga was the winner in the category of Best Choral Performance, with Conductor Gustavo Dudamel and Chorus Master Grant Gershon leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale, respectively. 

Altman also serves as a member of the Purchase College Alumni Association board.
