Cameron Carrella ’19 is Honored for Excellence in Music Education and Performance
A talented Jazz Studies graduate and dedicated music teacher, Carrella was named winner of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra’s Long Island Music Educator’s Performance Prize.
Honored for his contributions to both music performance and education, Carrella was selected from the top music instructors across Long Island to receive the prestigious honor. The award celebrates the artistry and commitment of Long Island’s outstanding music educators, recognizing their energy and passion in the classroom and the concert hall.
A music teacher at Kramer Lane Elementary School in Plainview, NY, Carrella earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies at the Purchase College Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in music education. As a featured trumpet soloist with the NSSO, he performed Jean Baptiste Arban’s “Fantaisie & Variations on The Carnival of Venice” at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center.
“Cameron brings incredible energy and heart to his work as a music educator, inspiring our youngest musicians with his passion and talent,” said Brent Chiarello, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at the Bethpage Union Free School District and a Purchase Jazz Studies alum.
“His students thrive under his guidance, and his artistry as a trumpet player —whether in jazz or classical— sets a powerful example.”
The Jazz Studies program at Purchase is a dynamic, intensive, professional training experience offering a rigorous curriculum in jazz repertoire, theory, history, and improvisation, while providing opportunities to perform on and off campus.
