The New Yorker has published “The Fifties,” a poem by Professor of Creative Writing Monica Ferrell, which is part of her forthcoming book, The Future.

Ferrell is the author of four books of fiction and poetry, including the forthcoming The Future (March 2026) and the collection You Darling Thing (2018), a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award and Believer Book Award in Poetry.

Her first collection of poems, Beasts for the Chase (2008), was a finalist for the Asian American Writers Workshop Prize in Poetry and won the Sarabande Books Kathryn A. Morton Prize, and her novel The Answer Is Always Yes (2008) was named one of Booklist’s Top Ten Debut Novels of the Year.

Besides The New Yorker, her work has appeared in New England Review, The New Republic, and Guernica, among others.
