Joey Katz ’18: Artistic Director of Film Festival

Katz worked his way up to a leadership role at Boston Jewish Film.

Congratulations to Joey Katz ’18 on being named Artistic Director of Boston Jewish Film.

Joey Katz ’18 (Cinema Studies) moved to Boston following graduation and started as a programming associate at Boston Jewish Film. He rose to Director of Special Programming, a position he held for two years before being named Artistic Director in December 2024.

The BJFF took place November 6–20, 2024.

In a statement, Katz recalls growing up in Cooperstown, New York, a town with only three Jewish families. Cinema became a way for him to learn about his culture. “In film, we see that Judaism isn’t monolithic. This is comforting for Jewish audiences and illuminating for non-Jewish audiences.”
