Dan Deacon ’04 Scores “Hustle”

Directed by Jeremiah Zaga, the Netflix film stars Adam Sandler and Queen Latifah.

Renowned recording artist and performer Dan Deacon ’04 (music) composed an original score for the Netflix film Hustle in his innovative electronic style.

The soundtrack also includes hip-hop by Philadelphia artists, a powerful combination that’s getting noticed.

Deacon didn’t come to Purchase to study music. Finding his coursework in the liberal arts and sciences less than fulfilling, he was encouraged by his friends to transfer to the Conservatory of Music. He reluctantly agreed. It changed his life. (Read more on npr.org).

Deacon’s original film and television scores include Twixt (Francis Ford Coppola, 2011), the 2021 PBS documentary series Philly D.A., and All Light, Everywhere (Theo Anthony, 2021).

Deacon also scored Jessica Kingdon’s Ascension, which won Best Documentary Feature at Tribeca 2021 and earned a nomination for Best Documentary Feature at the 2022 Academy Awards; Deacon’s work on the film took home the Best Score prize at the 2022 Cinema Eye Honors.

Deacon has premiered compositions at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, collaborated with a variety of artists and institutions, and toured internationally with popular recording artists.
