Being a part-time compost intern has allowed me to deeply reflect on the significance of waste management. Effective waste management is vital in mitigating climate change. Collaborating with members of the sustainability team was a vital component of this internship. Despite our backgrounds, we all shared a common objective: building a sustainable campus ecosystem.

Engaging in meaningful conversations about sustainability has been a valuable aspect of my internship. The Rocket, the campus compost machine, was out of service for a large portion of the semester. As a result, our team had to make adjustments to our semester goals. We dedicated time to brainstorming alternative composting systems and improving our own for greater efficiency.

I eventually got a little hands-on composting experience when the Rocket was back in service, something we were all anticipating. This opportunity deepened my understanding of waste management and the importance of sustainable practices.
