Food Recovery Network. By Anton Creutzfeldt

May 18, 2021

This semester I had the opportunity to intern at the Purchase College’s Food Recovery Network (FRN) chapter. FRN national is a nonprofit organization that helps colleges spread awareness of the fight of food waste by recovering perishable food from dining halls and donating it to those in need. Typically, local chapters of FRN would complete a certain number of food recoveries by the end of the semester, but because of the pandemic active food recoveries were not possible this semester. As a result, we used social media to spread awareness of programs on campus and online workshops to spread awareness of the benefits of sustainable living. We were also able to help the Mobile Food Pantry hand out food on campus to students and members of surrounding neighborhoods. The practices that FRN promote are essential to help fight hunger around the world.
