How to Apply

Are you currently a Purchase College student and want to apply for the Creative Writing Program?

These are the thing you will need:

  • Completed Creative Writing Internal Transfer Form
  • Letter of Intent: A one page discussion of your reasons for wanting to enter the program and an assessment of your strengths and weaknesses in writing.
  • Portfolio of writing: 5-7 poems (10 pages maximum) or Fiction 1-3 short stories (15 pages maximum w/preference for complete stories). You may submit samples in both genres if you so wish, but please adhere to the maximum page count of 15 pages in total.
  • One to two (1-2) letter(s) of recommendation from an instructor familiar with your writing. Letters should be e-mailed directly to the Department Chair.

Deadlines:

Fall Admission: April 1

Spring Admission: December 1
