Adam T. Morton ’95
From the Classroom to the Capital Markets: A Career Shaped by Unexpected Turns
When Adam Morton ’95 arrived at Purchase College, he was an English literature major with a love of language and leadership. As captain of Purchase’s first NCAA men’s volleyball team, he learned early how to build trust, stay adaptable, and thrive under pressure—skills that would prove invaluable in the years ahead.
After graduating, Adam earned his master’s degree in special education from The College of New Rochelle and began his career as a special education teacher in Westchester. He also worked as a professional education consultant, supporting schools and students across the region. Though deeply committed to teaching, an unexpected opportunity pulled him in a new direction: a small financial firm in downtown Manhattan hired him to train its employees on Microsoft programs.
That role opened the door to a rapidly changing industry. When the firm was acquired soon after, Adam faced the possibility of job loss. Rather than return immediately to the classroom, he decided to earn his financial licenses while still employed—an instinctive pivot that would alter the course of his life.
He took his Series 7 exam on September 11, 2001, unaware of the events unfolding just miles away. In the days that followed, as his firm relocated displaced employees to temporary offices, Adam found himself in Stamford, Connecticut, newly focused on learning the wealth management and capital markets business. He was a soon-to-be father, grieving the loss of a close friend from the attacks, and navigating an entirely new professional landscape.
Adam joined Tucker Anthony Inc. as Vice President of Business Development, and when the company was later integrated into RBC Wealth Management, he continued to rise. Today, more than twenty-five years after that unexpected career shift, he serves as a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor at RBC, where he has built a long, successful tenure helping clients navigate complex financial decisions.
Adam now lives in Darien, Connecticut, where he enjoys fly fishing, boating, skiing, and coaching his children’s sports teams.
