Scott Walters ’89
Scott Walters, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, arrived at Purchase as a part-time student in 1986. After graduating from Purchase, he continued his studies at Carnegie Mellon University through 1991.
Scott enjoyed singing many roles for various companies including the Bronx Opera and Pittsburgh Opera. He also was featured as a soloist at the Mostly Mozart Festival in NYC and performed in the Mozart–Da Ponte trilogy at the PepsiCo Summerfare here at SUNY Purchase.
He gained teaching certification and taught music for ten years in Elizabeth, Newark, and Belleville, NJ, as well as various parochial schools in NY. He has also been a soloist/section leader in many churches in the metropolitan area and was music director at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood, NJ.
For the last eleven years he has been the owner of Walters Wanderings Travel in Nanuet. He has sent clients to every continent except Antarctica and has won awards and accolades throughout his tenure as a travel advisor.
Scott has lived in Nanuet since 1992 and in Rockland County since 1974. He has been married to his wife Ellie since 1996 and has three children, all adopted from China. He hopes to bring a fresh voice to the Alumni Association and looks forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
