Virginia Wagner
Lecturer, Painting and Drawing
Virginia Wagner is a Full-time Lecturer of Painting and Drawing at SUNY Purchase. She earned her MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art, and her BA in Studio Art and Creative Writing from Oberlin College. She has been granted residencies with Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, Bridge Street Theater, Guggenheim Peter B Lewis Theater, Mount Tremper Arts, Brush Creek, Byrdcliffe, VCCA, the Edward Albee Foundation, Ucross, Jentel, Vermont Studio Center, and Yale Norfolk.

Virginia Wagner is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is grounded in the language of painting. Her visual work, animation, and writing examine the relationship between human progress and the natural world. Her paintings investigate sites of ecological tension, material sustainability, and our relationship to landscape.
Wagner has received grants from STEAMplant and The Lotos Foundation. She is Co-Founder of the journal Painters on Paintings.
