John R. Howard
Distinguished Service Professor of Sociology
John Howard is Distinguished Service Professor emeritus of sociology at Purchase College. He received his doctorate in sociology from Stanford University and a law degree from Pace University School of Law. Reflecting broad interests, his books include Faces in the Mirror: Oscar Micheaux and Spike Lee (2010) and The Shifting Wind: The Supreme Court and Civil Rights from Reconstruction to Brown (1999). Professor Howard has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and from the American Bar Association.
