Rudolf Gaudio

Professor of Anthropology

Rudolf Gaudio is professor of anthropology and a contributing faculty member in media studies, gender studies, and global black studies. His research addresses questions of language, citizenship, and space in relation to gender, sexuality, nation, and race. His book, Allah Made Us: Sexual Outlaws in an Islamic African City (Wiley, 2009), is an ethnography of ‘yan daudu, a subculture of feminine men in the Muslim, Hausa-speaking region of northern Nigeria. He is currently completing a book manuscript on language, race, and nationalism in Abuja, Nigeria’s planned modernist capital.
