Thalia Sablon ’18

Thalia Sablon ’18 is a writer, director, and producer.

Recently, Sablon was co-writer, co-director, and co-producer of the play Raccoon Princess, presented at The Tank, a small, Manhattan-based non-profit arts presenter and producer serving emerging artists.

She also presented her work How to Steal Time and Other Important Poor People Skills for Conch Shell Productions’ Cold Reading Series, which celebrates emerging Caribbean voices in theatre and film.

In 2023, Sablon participated in The Workshop Theater’s 9th annual Out of the Hat Festival, for which organizers drew playwright names “out of a hat” and paired each writer with two actors. The playwrights then wrote new short plays inspired by the prompt word “fire.” Sablon worked with actors Alexis Cofield and Emma Mueller on her play Burnt Bridge

Sablon was also a member of the 2023 New Georges Jam, a collaboration-based “performance gym” for theater makers in all disciplines.

Sablon was selected for the prestigious New York Theatre Workshop’s 2050 Administrative Fellowship Program for 2022–2023.

Recent writing credits include Angela Davis’s School For Girls With Big Eyes, Treat Me Softly, and Bad American Dreams.

Bad American Dreams is about a Haitian immigrant named Roseln who is running from her trauma whilst trying (and failing) to assimilate into American culture. 

She fills her plays with her questions about life and the world around her, hoping that other people have the same questions and want answers, too. 

Sablon was born in Haiti and raised in Queens, NY and earned an MFA in Playwriting from Rutgers University in 2022.
