Barry Pearson

Barry Pearson was appointed Senior Vice President for Intergenerational Learning and Program Planning (SVPIL) in June 2022. In this role, Pearson is the lead officer in developing and implementing the intergenerational learning program at Broadview Senior Living, still under construction with a planned spring 2023 opening. Pearson works with Academic Affairs, the Multicultural Center, Office for Global Education, the Neuberger Museum, and other campus constituencies to develop and direct an array of programs, courses, and events with a focus on interdependent, intergenerational learning.

To maximize the program’s social and cultural integration between communities, the SVPIL works closely with the office of Continuing Education, and also oversees the Performing Arts Center.

Prior to this appointment, Pearson served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Purchase College from 2013-June 2022.

At Purchase College, Provost Pearson’s background in administration and management of academic programs, curriculum development, and budget planning has led to new program development and has been instrumental in program and faculty development in the College’s School of the Arts, School of Liberal Studies, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and continuing education program. Strategic investments made during his tenure founded the Transnational Film Program, The Center for Engagement, launched new programs in the arts, and assisted with the development of academic infrastructure in the areas of technology and global education. Beyond the campus, Provost Pearson was an instrumental part of creating the PRODIGi Fellows Consortium, a SUNY-wide network for developing under-represented minority faculty through a residential fellowship program within the comprehensive sector of SUNY. Provost Pearson serves on the Broadview Senior Living Community board: Purchase College Advancement Corporation (PCAC) as Vice Chairman of the Board and Vice President of the Company.

He began his career at Millikin University as artistic director and then chair and associate professor of its Department of Theatre and Dance, and later served as Director of the university’s Kirkland Fine Arts Center, as Dean of the College of Fine Arts, and as Vice President for Academic Affairs. He was the lead facilitator and principal author of the Millikin’s strategic plan. During his tenure as Dean and later as Vice President, Mr. Pearson oversaw several academic building and renovation projects and initiated and managed key capital campaigns.

Barry holds a BS in secondary education from Kansas State University and an MFA in directing from Indiana University.
