Mary Waller
Lecturer of Spanish
Mary Waller is a native of Northwest Ireland, where her family still resides. She received her BA in Spanish & French from the University of Leeds (England) and was recruited directly from there for highly sensitive and classified interpreting/translation work for the British government. This was followed by a stint in the financial district of London working as a senior translator for an international bank.
More About Me
Mary perfected her Spanish language skills while living and working in the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean some 100 kms west of Morocco. Further years were spent working in Madrid and Barcelona and a final two years in Athens, Greece – where she (joyfully) took Greek classes and ultimately set up a foreign language program for kids - before moving to the US.
Prior to joining Purchase College to teach Spanish, Mary worked for Berlitz corporate language programs; Continuing Education (Spanish) for adults in Greenwich, CT and for the last 12 years has provided services as a Spanish interpreter/translator at Americares, which offers free medical care for the uninsured in CT.
Teaching Spanish is her lifelong passion; a passion that she hopes ends up being contagious to her students… Mary continues to travel as extensively as work allows, splitting her time between home bases in the US and Europe.
