Victor Vyssotski ’26 Receives SUNY’s Highest Undergraduate Honor

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE) is SUNY’s highest academic achievement.

Congratulations to senior Victor Vyssotski for receiving the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE), the State University of New York’s most prestigious recognition for undergraduate achievement.

The award honors students who demonstrate exceptional performance across academics, leadership, and campus involvement. Vyssotski excels in all three areas and more.

Vyssotski has achieved an extraordinary level of academic excellence while assuming substantial leadership and service responsibilities outside the classroom.

Exemplary Academic

President Steiper with SUNY CASE winners Kelley Bui '26 and Victor Vyssotski '26 A double-major in Economics and Mathematics/Computer Science, Vyssotski has earned a reputation among faculty for going well beyond course requirements—reading independently, thinking analytically, and engaging with difficult material with both precision and depth—leading to receiving the Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Senior Student Awards in Economics.

Noted for his intellectual rigor, he keenly applies advanced quantitative methods to complex real-world questions. A project in Linear Algebra, modeling traffic flow in New York City, laid the groundwork for his senior project: an ambitious empirical analysis of the effects of New York City’s congestion pricing on road speeds. To conduct the research, he independently acquired advanced skills in big data management, R programming, and professional research writing using LaTeX.

He has served as an economics tutor, often going above and beyond. Despite earning an A in Microeconomics II, Vyssotski planned to attend the class again solely to strengthen his understanding of the material and better support the students he tutors.

Athletic and Community Leader

Vyssotski has also served as the Treasurer and President of the Economics Club and as the Finance Coordinator for the PSGA, and this year earned the Outstanding Employee of the PSGA award.

As a four-year member of the cross-country team and captain his senior year, he has received multiple awards, including Athlete of the Year, Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the Coach’s Award in Cross Country. He also earned a spot on the All-Skyline First Team. He’s an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a group composed of athlete leaders who engage in community service initiatives.

Engaged in the Arts

A performer from a young age, Vysotski has remained actively involved in the performing arts throughout all four years. As an actor, he performed with the Rocky Horror Picture Show Club and appeared in the Purchase Student Thespian Society’s productions of Into the Woods and Dogfight. As a musician, he played clarinet in a jazz ensemble for non-majors and sang in the Jazz Choir.

The curiosity, open-mindedness, academic rigor, and interdisciplinary exploration that Vyssotski demonstrates truly embody what’s possible at Purchase.
