The Library Celebrates Native American Heritage Month!

On the first-floor display bookshelf, we feature various monographs on indigenous North American arts: dress, mask-making, skin painting, sculpture, basket-making, pottery, jewelry, and more. And on the rolling display cabinet, there’s a wealth of scholarly writings, research, and images, perfect for an introduction to the rich history and deep cultural influences of indigenous arts in the United States.

Along the display counter in the Reference Commons and in the Music Collection room, you’ll find CDs of Native American musical arts: songs and dances of Eastern Indians, pow wow songs of the Plains, Navajo songs, and Turtle dance songs of the Pueblo. Sample our collection of “Library of Congress Archives of Folk Song” field recordings of Native American cultures. These historical LPs represent North American geographic regions and indigenous cultural practices and come with informative liner notes and accompanying guides.

The displays will run through November.

All items on both displays are available for checkout.
