Math & Comp Sci Club Visits IBM Research
Led by Associate Professor Lee Tusman, the group witnessed IBM’s quantum computer systems up close.
Students from the Math and Computer Science Club visited IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, the global headquarters of IBM Research, to visit with researchers and see their Quantum Computer systems up close, as well as their experimental AI-optimized cloud-native supercomputer.
Associate Professor of New Media and Computer Science Lee Tusman led the field trip, which was supported by a Faculty Student Engagement grant.
Over 1,500 scientists, engineers, and designers work in the facility where many of IBM’s most notable technical breakthroughs in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors have taken place.
The Student Success Committee offers Student Engagement and Bus Transportation Grants to fund extracurricular and interdisciplinary faculty initiatives that increase student engagement with the world beyond the classroom and offer students new venues for interacting with each other.
The Watson Research Center, located nearby in Yorktown Heights, NY, opened in 1961 in an iconic building designed by renowned architect Eero Saarinen.
