Damani Pompey ’12 Earns NYSCA Grant

The award funds the choreography of new work with Battery Dance Company.


Congratulations to Damani Pompey ’12 for earning a 2025 NYSCA Support for Artists Grant for a collaborative residency project at Vassar College.

Working with Battery Dance Company, Pompey will choreograph “Empty Hand,” a  new work during a March 2025 residency at the college in Poughkeepsie.

Executive Director of NYSCA Erika Mallin says, “Artists are our changemakers, our thought leaders and one of our greatest resources for a brighter future. On behalf of the Council, congratulations to Mr. Pompey and all our FY 2025 grantees! We are proud to support the critical work that you do.”

The Support for Artists grant empowers artists by providing financial resources and institutional backing for new and impactful projects. In 2025, NYSCA has placed a particular emphasis on projects that promote social equity, cultural diversity, and community engagement.
