Last October marked my inauguration as the sixth president of Purchase College. The theme I chose, “Purchase College and the Sustainable Future: People, Place, and Purpose,” illustrates my commitment to honoring sustainability in all of our endeavors.
As a further demonstration of that commitment, this issue of PURCHASE magazine will publish online only to save paper, ink, and the energy expended in the printing, shipping, and mailing of the nearly 27,000 copies we typically publish. We hope you enjoy reading about your fellow alumni and feel good that we’ve done a small part to spare some resources.
However, we believe in the strength of a high-quality printed publication and will return to the format in the fall, once we have had time to reassess our carbon footprint and investigate ways to be more mindful of the choices we make in paper and delivery in the future. As we’ve done for the past several issues, an online companion will continue to accompany the printed issues.

Once again, I’m so enthralled to read stories about our successful alumni and the fascinating paths they’ve taken, whether in the arts, sciences, or humanities. I’m so proud to be president and proud of this incredible legacy of the Purchase experience.
