Professor Skrivanek Earns Inspiring Leader in STEM Award

Insight into Diversity recognized his work on the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program.

Professor Joe Skrivanek has earned an Inspiring Leader in STEM Award by Insight into Diversity for his continuing work on the Bridges to Baccalaureate summer program. 

The Bridges Program provides support to underrepresented minority students studying science. Students participate in professional development workshops, receive individual advising and networking opportunities, and complete original science research under the supervision of a faculty member.

Since 2000, the program has received continuous federal funding, with supplemental private funding, and in 2011, Purchase received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.

INSIGHT Into Diversity recognizes leaders who are making a difference in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with the 2017 Inspiring Leaders in STEM Award.

These men and women work to motivate and encourage the next generation of young people to pursue STEM education and careers via teaching, mentoring, research, and groundbreaking discoveries and innovations.
