In Conversation: Alex Katz & Robert Storr
The first decade of Alex Katz’ career was a period characterized by fierce experimentation from which his signature brightly colored figurative paintings emerged. Creating work at a time when abstract painting dominated the art scene, Katz forged an ingenious way to wed abstraction with recognizable imagery by paring down his compositions to their most fundamental elements. His works prefigured the subsequent development of Pop Art.
Brand-New & Terrific: Alex Katz in the 1950s is organized by the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine, in close collaboration with the 90-year old artist. This national touring exhibition features more than 60 works from public and private collections as well as many rarely seen works from Katz’s own holdings.
The exhibition closes on October 14, 2018.
Closed on Monday and Tuesday
