Daniel with other NYPIRG interns at the Earth Day Campus Clean-up
This spring, I worked with the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) chapter at Purchase College, getting hands-on with everything from Earth Day planning and a campus cleanup to a Menstrual and Hygiene Product Drive that collected basic supplies for students dealing with financial or housing insecurity. I also took part in chapter meetings, helped with event planning, and attended a social housing info session on affordable rental and homeownership options around New York State. Somewhere along the way it really clicked for me how connected environmental action, food access, public health, and housing really are, and that making any of it better takes communication and people willing to work together.
