Broadview internship. by Leo Conte

During my internship at Broadview, a new senior residential community, I helped with sustainability and community-building initiatives aimed at addressing operational challenges. These included issues surrounding waste disposal, resident awareness, and infrastructure for sustainable living. I contributed to environmental education by designing waste signage for grab-and-go food stations, supporting the integration of biodegradable plastics in packaging, and assisting the Environmental Committee with a resident-focused presentation on plastic types and recycling practices. Beyond waste management, I worked with the community life team to strengthen social sustainability by fostering resident engagement through events and educational tools. This included supporting a “taxonomic walk” to promote ecological literacy, for which I helped identify plant species and produce an educational video for residents. My internship allowed me to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges while gaining interdisciplinary experience across departments. These efforts contributed to both environmental progress and community resilience at Broadview, emphasizing the interconnectedness of sustainability, education, and collective action.
