This production of Heroes of the Fourth Turning includes simulated use of firearms, including gunshot sound effects, as well as simulated vomiting and a simulated animal carcass. It also includes discussions of homophobia, transphobia, and racism, and mentions of abortion, death, and suicidal ideation.

CAST:

Kelsey Collins is a fourth year BFA actor from Libertyville, Illinois. Purchase Rep include: Our Town (Julia Gibbs), Road (Lane/Valerie), Orpheus Descending (Carol Cutrere) and Orestes (Helen/Chorus). Other credits include work in many student films. Kelsey would like to thank James!! Her loving family who are the best, awesome friends, incredible teachers who she adores, and her 2nd family company 48!

Amani “Kojo” is a fourth year BFA actor from Queens,New York. He first made his debut in Everybody (Kinship,Mind, Somebody C), followed by Our town (Mr.Webb), Road (Joey), Orpheus Descending (Conjure man), Good Goods (Truth), and Heroes of the fourth Turning (Justin). He would like to send a thank you to the faculty of the program as well as his family and friends that show him support.

Leo Osborn (he/him) is a fourth year BFA actor hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina with a passion for writing, reading, oxford commas, and theatrical intimacy work. Past Purchase Rep credits include: Orestes (Orestes), Orpheus Descending (Beulah Binnings), Road (various), and Our Town (George Gibbs). Many thanks to his family and friends as well as the brilliantly talented cast and crew!

Lucia Rogerson is a fourth year BFA actor born and raised in New York City. Purchase Rep credits so far include Our Town (Rebecca Gibbs, Joe/Si Crowell), Road (Dor, Marion), Orpheus Descending (Eva Temple), and Orestes (Messenger, Chorus) . Lucia dedicates this and every performance to her family- Robin, Gus, and Frankie.

Kate West is a fourth year BFA actor from Santa Clarita, California. Her Purchase credits include Road (Carol), Orpheus Descending (Vee), and Orestes (Electra). West would like to thank the entire cast and crew, her amazing teachers, and her family & friends for their support.

Sofia Olga Lavion is a fourth year technical director/production manager. She was the production carpenter on Fefu and Her Friends, and the production flyman for Cyrano. She would like to thank her parents, especially her mother, for their endless support, and all her friends. Thank you to her love infinity repeating.

Luca Plitz is a third year theatre design and technology major with a concentration in scenic design from Chandler, Arizona. Purchase Rep credits include: Fucking A (props charge), Heroes of the Fourth Turning (props charge), Good Goods (assistant props charge), Orestes (assistant props charge), and Orpheus Descending (assistant paint charge). He thanks his family, friends, and wonderful partner who have been incredibly kind and supportive throughout his time here.

Margaret (Mae) Russell is a third year costume design/construction major from Rochester, New York. Purchase production credits include Heroes of the Fourth Turning (designer), Twelfth Night, Fefu and Her Friends (assistant designer), Good Goods (draper), and Barbeque (wardrobe assistant). A special thanks to her Aunt Mary, who is dearly missed but always present, and to everyone in our family for their support and encouragement.

Kat Schorn is a fourth year scenic design major from Northport, New York. Tess Walsh is a dramaturg from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in their last semester at Purchase completing their degrees in Anthropology and Theatre and Performance. Recently, they served as dramaturg on Bonefruit by Leah Plante-Wiener at the Tank, had a reading of a new play they’re writing at the Makers’ Ensemble, and performed in + dramaturged their thesis adaptation of As You Like It. They’d like to thank James for their incredible leadership, Ana Karen for being an oomf for life, and the entire cast and crew for their joint slay.

James Dean Palmer Headshot

James (he/they) is a director, producer, and educator based in New York City. They have worked with companies across the country including Roundabout Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, Mabou Mines, Long Wharf, The Old Globe, Chautauqua Theatre, Asolo Repertory, The Texas Shakespeare Festival, and The Goodman Theatre among others. James was the founding artistic director of Chicago’s award-winning Red Tape Theatre. They’ve received fellowships from Manhattan Theatre Club, SDC, The Drama League, Chautauqua Theatre, and is a Peter Kaplan fellow. In 2010 James received a Joseph Jefferson award for best direction of The Love of the Nightingale by Timberlake Wertenbaker. Previous SUNY Purchase shows: Passage by Christopher Chen and Bibles and Candy by Dorothy Fortenberry. 

About the Conservatory of Theatre Arts

In our teaching and art, the Conservatory values inclusiveness, equality, and excellence. Upholding all of our training is our aim to train and graduate citizen artists: multifaceted people with a strong sense of purpose in approaching an arts education.

What is a citizen artist? Citizen artists seek to discover how their unique voices can contribute to our world. They understand what it means to be an artist, and what they are here on earth to say and do and make.

The Conservatory trains future citizen artists in three degree programs:

+ BFA Actor Training. The BFA is an intensive professional training program offered to a highly select and diverse group of students. The professional training is anchored in four years of study in acting, voice, speech, and movement, complemented by offerings in dramatic literature and analysis, history of the theatre, stage combat, improvisation, mask work, acting for the camera, and the business of acting. As one of five schools in the Consortium of Professional Theatre Training Programs, Purchase is one of a handful of colleges in the world capable of training artists at this level—and of drawing a faculty from the ranks of professional theatre

+ BFA in Theatre Design/Technology. Emphasizing studio and classroom training, our professional training program in theatre design/technology gives students the guidance and support of established and theatre industry professionals. Many of our alumni are recognized at the top of their field, and have received Tony, Emmy, Obie, and Drama Desk Awards, among other honors. Quite literally, Purchase grads are working in or have worked in every theatre on Broadway, in all tristate venues, and with countless touring productions

+ BA program in Theatre and Performance. From traditional theatre to cutting-edge interdisciplinary work, the theatre and performance major encourages creativity, intellectual curiosity, social engagement, and critical thinking. The core requirements combine scholarship and practice to provide students with a strong foundation in theatre history and dramatic literature, with mandatory stagecraft/production courses. Theatre and Performance majors are encouraged to expand the scope of their education by studying abroad, as well as pursuing coursework in other programs of study within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Purchase College.
