Marjan Neshat ’98

An Iranian-born actress—who for years was told her look was not quite right, who thought about quitting, and was best known for supporting film and television roles, including the 2014 remake of the film RobocopMarjan Neshat found success in the 2021–2022 theatre season.

She received critical acclaim for roles in three off-Broadway plays, all by playwrights of Middle Eastern descent—Selling Kabul by Sylvia Khoury at Playwrights Horizons and English and Wish You Were Here by Sanaz Toossi at Atlantic Theater Company and Playwrights Horizons, respectively.

Neshat subsequently won the Sam Norkin Drama Desk Award 2022 for her portrayals of two different roles in one season of theatre, for Aafiya in Selling Kabul and Marjan in English. In a New York Times feature, Toossi called Neshat “the best actor I’ve ever worked with.”
