Le’Asha Julius ’12 attended Washington DC’s Duke Ellington High School to pursue acting but always loved music, played guitar, and wrote poetry and songs.

While in the acting program at Purchase, she fell into the music scene. Her classmate and best friend, Caleb Eberhardt ’12, encouraged her to rap. They recorded and performed together as Quincy Vidal. Le'Asha Julius '12 and Caleb Eberhardt '12, perform as Quincy Vidal at Culture Shock (Photo: Isaa... Around the same time, she found a bass guitar in a dumpster and took lessons from a classmate. She formed a second band called 2nd Nature; she was the singer and lead writer.

During their first rehearsal, three guys wandered in to watch. They were musicians Gabriel Garzon-Montano ’13 (Studio Comp), Spencer Murphy ’10 (Jazz), and Davy Levitan ’12 (Jazz).

“I didn’t know at the time, but apparently, those guys were the hot stuff on campus with their band Mokaad.” Days later, she joined them. “I was now miraculously in three different music groups with three different sounds.”

After a successful run with Quincy Vidal, Julius is now out on her own, recording as Le’Asha. She released an EP, The Universe Project, in 2018 and three singles this year, “Demons,” “Swirl,” and “Damn Good” (feat. Cakes da Killa). She’s also teaching here at Purchase and at Duke Ellington High School.
