Professor Gondra holds a Licenciatura in English Philology from the Universidad de Deusto - Deustuko Unibertsitatea (Spain). At the graduate level, he received a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) English in Secondary Education from the Universidad de Deusto-Deustuko Unibertsitatea (Spain), and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Spanish Applied Linguistics and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Spanish Linguistics from Purdue University.
His research focus is centered on multiple aspects of theoretical linguistics, including syntax, language variation, and language contact. His scholarly interests also include bilingualism, second language teaching and learning, and intercultural communicative competence.
