Tanairi Vazquez ’10 Joins Cast of Hamilton

Originally from Puerto Rico, Vazquez has certainly made New York her home, especially the theater district. She has been in four other Broadway shows, including On Your Feet, Gigi, Wonderland, and West Side Story.

The multi-talented dancer who is in the ensemble of the show and plays Alexander Hamilton’s mother, praises Purchase for helping her find her identity as an artist and performer, and teaming her up with some of the “best teachers and mentors” she’s ever had.

She recently told the Harrison Daily Voice that “I learned I was a very versatile dancer during my years at Purchase.” That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue performing as a career. All the workshops we had from other companies, and also being surrounded by so many musicians, actors, and singers made me realize I also wanted to eventually step into those other fields at some point.”
