Provenance Project

The museum’s permanent collection builds on nearly 950 works that founding patron Roy R. Neuberger gave to the NEU over the course of his lifetime.

Stewarding this collection requires not only the physical care of the art, but also a lot of detective work to track the origin and history of each object. Via the Neuberger Berman Foundation, corporate member Neuberger Berman—the investment firm that Mr. Neuberger launched in 1939—has made a generous multi-year gift to fund a provenance researcher. A small exhibition showcasing fascinating stories gleaned during the first two years of research was on view from November 17, 2021 through February 20, 2022.
