Update: Stop the Clock

Stopped to end racism and bias, the clock was restarted.

The clock in the main plaza stopped at 8:46am.

Update: The clock was restarted on February 17, 2021 at 9am, six months to the day the clock was stopped. Restarting the clock initiated the semester’s Race Towards Unity and Equity events.

The online bias training via the EVERFI platform is available for new members of the Purchase College community or those who were unable to complete the training last fall.

In solidarity with the peaceful protesters and in memory of George Floyd and other Black victims, Purchase College literally and figuratively stopped the clock on racism and bias on our campus. On Monday, August 17, 2020 at 8:46am, we stopped the clock on the Main Plaza, the time representing the last 8 minutes and 46 seconds of George Floyd’s life. The clock will restart once our campus community of faculty, staff, and students have broadened our understanding and awareness of implicit and explicit biases by completing virtual online bias training, the first step of many.

In addition to the online training module, we will provide multi-series, multi-level in-person interactive trainings for every stakeholder group on campus, when it’s safe to do so, as outlined in our Nine Actions for Change plan.
