Meeting Student Needs with Open Educational Resources
By providing universal and timely access to high-quality course materials and related support tools, the use of openly licensed course materials can play a significant role in promoting student success. And because the open licensing allows us to revise, remix, and redistribute these course materials, it allows faculty to take more control over our courses than is sometimes available when using a commercial text. It can be time consuming though to locate and vet openly licensed course materials.
In this workshop we will explore a variety of tools and approaches for finding and adopting OER course materials. First the Bookstore will demonstrate the tools and processes for finding and adopting OER materials through the Follett Discover platform. The TLTC will then present the open texts and related tools that SUNY OER Services can provide, through their partnerships with Lumen Learning and Carnegie Mellon’s Open Learning Initiative.
