In Conversation: For Freedoms, Performing Politics

Eric Gottesman, co-founder of For Freedoms, a nationwide, artist-run 50 state initiative, and assistant professor of photography at Purchase, will moderate a panel discussion addressing the ways in which artists perform politics, and how those performances become art works and civic actions.

Panel participants are Rachel Owens, artist and Assistant Professor of Art & Design; Hakan Topol, artist and Assistant Professor of New Media and Art + Design; Andrea Thome, playwright and Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre and Performance; and Jonah Westerman, scholar and Assistant Professor of Art History.

Following the discussion will be a Q & A with the audience.



Related to this panel, artist and For Freedoms co-founder Hank Willis Thomas will be speaking at Purchase College on October 31st as part of the Visiting Artist Lecture Series. In addition, Art & Design professor Warren Lehrer’s Community Design class is currently collaborating on a For Freedoms billboard, and Eric Gottesman is teaching a special topics class in Visual Arts on the For Freedoms initiative.
