Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Purchase College Foundation?

The Purchase College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable entity established for the purpose of receiving and managing gifts in support of Purchase College, a public institution of higher education that can not, by law, receive gifts directly.

If Purchase College is a public college, why does it need private gifts?

The State of New York provides less than 20% of the College's annual operating budget.

Private gifts allow the college to attract and retain the best and brightest faculty, provide scholarships, build facilities, and continue to offer the diverse, high-quality education that Purchase College is known for.

How are gifts to The Purchase Fund solicited?

Annual gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the College are solicited through The Purchase Fund using direct mail, phone calls by students, and reply envelopes in Purchase Magazine.

How is my gift spent?

Designated gifts are used for the purpose for which they were given. Gifts to the Purchase Fund are unrestricted in their purpose and can be used where the need is greatest.

How can I establish a named scholarship?

Named scholarships may be established with an initial gift of $10,000 or more, payable over two years.

Endowed named scholarships can be established with gifts of $50,000 or more, which can be paid over a three-year period.

Can I name the Purchase College Foundation in my will?

Planned gifts in support of Purchase College, the Neuberger Museum of Art, and The Performing Arts Center are critical to the future of these institutions. See the planned giving pages of this website for additional details.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Since the Purchase College Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, all gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You should consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift.
