Welcomes to the 2023-2024 Academic Year!

Whether you are new to the community or excited to return to your friends and colleagues, I look forward to spending time with as many of you as possible throughout the semester...

Dear Purchase College Community,

Welcome to the fall semester. Since I first arrived on campus a few years ago, one of my greatest pleasures has been to welcome new members to our community, including students embarking on their academic careers and new faculty and staff who are preparing to work at our vibrant campus.

I also love hearing from returning students, faculty, and staff about what they’ve been doing over the summer. Sometimes they talk about reading and listening to music for enjoyment, making strides in their research or craft, traveling, or just catching up on much needed rest and time with friends and family. The one overarching theme I’ve noticed is that more often than not our returning community members seem to glow with re-invigorated energy and ideas for the coming semester.

This year, we’re also getting ready to welcome a new cohort to campus, the charter members of Broadview, Senior Living at Purchase College. It is my sincerest hope that you are as welcoming to them as you have been to me. I have no doubt that their experiences and insights will add much to our community of life-long learners.

These new residents are coming because of who you are and who we are as a campus. They know what it means to be part of a vibrant, creative, diverse, LGBTQ-friendly, open-minded college campus, and that’s what excites many of them. They’re here to learn from you and with you, in addition to helping us raise funds for student scholarships and faculty support.

I hope you take advantage of all the opportunities for intergenerational learning and mentorship that will now be available via Broadview. For instance, pre-med students have had engaging discussions with retired doctors and health care professionals, and pilot mentorship programs are underway for STEM, communications, legal, and other fields. Stay tuned as we work together to do what we do best, “Think Wide Open,” about the possibilities.

Whether you are new to the community or excited to return to your friends and colleagues, I look forward to spending time with as many of you as possible throughout the semester at a wide range of events, programs, and performances, which I am sure will be inspiring and fulfilling for all of us.
