What does the IRB do?
The IRB serves to protect participants’ rights and their welfare before and during the research study. Thus, the IRB reviews the methods and the procedures for all human subjects research conducted by members of Purchase College before the research begins. For example, the IRB makes sure that any risks to participants are as small as possible, usually no more than what someone might encounter during the course of their daily activities. The IRB also decides whether it is right to ask people if they want to take part in a research study. The purpose of the IRB is to ensure that all human subjects are treated equitably and humanely.
