Located a short distance adjacent to the Purchase College campus on Purchase Street is a large 1920’s colonial revival residence, known as the Beechwood House. The house is considered eligible for inclusion in the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Currently, the house suffers from a number of problems including a leaking slate roof, damaged windows, required masonry repairs, and the need for interior restoration work due to these problems. The scope of the project will include exterior repairs and improvements to the main house to stop any further deterioration. The College has engaged Belson Design Architects to develop plans to restore the residence. The team is also working closely with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation so that the proposed work will not compromise the house’s historic eligibility, while still allowing for upgrading the residence to the required current building and safety codes
The scope of the project will include a new slate roof, repairs to the existing windows (including new storm windows), repair and re-pointing of the existing exterior masonry walls, and a new accessible entrance ramp.
