PERCUSSIONIST DOMINIC DONATO IN CONCERT SEPT. 25

Purchase College music professor and percussion soloist Dominic Donato presents “Music for Tam Tams,” on September 25 at 7 PM in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. Donato, chair of the Percussion Department in the School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music, will perform works for solo tams and electronics by James Tenney, Steve Ricks, Stuart Jones and Peter Jarvis, as well as his own compositions. The concert is free and open to the public. Tam tams are suspended gongs.

Donato is a member of the Talujon Percussion Quartet and Newband, and performs regularly with many New York new music groups and orchestras, including Ensemble 21, the ST-X Ensemble, Washington Square Chamber Music Society, League of Composers/ISCM, American Composers Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Eos Orchestra, and Riverside Symphony.

As a soloist, he has performed in New York City (Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space), Rome, Amsterdam and Paris, where he gave the French premiere of Iannis Xenakis’s “Percussion Concerto Omega.”

Donato has recorded Dean Drummond’s “Different Drums” for solo percussion on Mode Records, and can also be heard on Aurora, Newport Classics, New World, O.O. Discs and CRI recordings.

He received his D.M.A. degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and his M.M. from SUNY Stony Brook.
