MUSIC STUDENT ROBERT AVEY WINS THE THEODORE PRESSER AWARD AND THE YAMAHA YOUNG PERFORMING ARTISTS COMPETITION

Robert Avey, Mount Pocono, PA and White Plains, NY, a junior in the Jazz Studies program in the Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music, received the 2006 Theodore Presser Scholarship and was the winner of the 2006 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition in piano.

The Theodore Presser Scholarship recognizes an outstanding undergraduate music student who is selected by his/her college to receive the award. Presented by the Theodore Presser Foundation, the scholarship honors the memory of the founder of the Theodore Presser Company, the oldest music publisher in the United States, who was also a philanthropist in the cause of music education.

The Yamaha Young Performing Artists Program recognizes outstanding young musicians from the worlds of classical, jazz and contemporary music. Winners of this year’s competition will be invited to an all expenses paid weekend awards ceremony at the Bands of America Summer Symposium, a taped live recital/concert by the winners and Yamaha performing artists, and other events and honors. Winners will also enjoy many of the privileges of a Yamaha artist, including services and communication with Yamaha’s artist relations department.
